Dinner at Ambush - fast casual european dining

Europe in Singapore! Oh yes, you don't need to spend thousands of dollars just to fly to Europe and have a taste of their food. Wow, I sound like a sales man. Haha.

Last sunday, 10 March 2013, we ate at Ambush - fast casual european dining. Good name! I wonder why they called it 'ambush'. Anyways, the one we went to was at the Bishan Junction 8 mall (we live nearby, so that explains it). I've actually been wanting to eat here ever since we moved to Bishan. I just love western food! So when I saw this I know sooner or later we are going here!

I have to say, I didn't like the physical restaurant itself - just because the restaurant is like an open space (no walls) so I didn't have that intimate feeling. Sometimes, it's nice to eat in a place where people passing by will not actually see you while you eat. I am not sure if they're trying to make it al fresco, but they're inside the mall so it didn't work for me.

I like their logo - easy and inviting

i like how each table is so simple

On to the menu - they really serve famous European dishes. They look so so good! I wanted to try them all. But I settled for the one under Swissgerman Wurst - Chicken Cheese for SGD 12.20

i like the concept of a newspaper menu - very creative

They served it with this potato thing ( I am so sorry, I know I should have asked what it's name - so next time! ) and I loved it! Really loved it! That potato side dish was so nice.

my plate. LOVE!

If you ask me if I will come back - definitely yes! I want to try their other dishes too. Aside from that they are actually affordable. Just the way I like it! :)

Singapore IT Show 2013

First of all, I do want to say that I have a few post coming up after this. Hopefully I will find time to do all of them.

This IT show 2013 was different because it was held at the famous Marina Bay Sands! And for the first time, I didn't really have any plans of buying anything. But still, I went there but to just accompany a friend who will be buying some stuff! He bought an external HDD, toner and magic mouse.

IT show is the best place to buy electronics stuff. Not only the items are discounted, you will also get LOADS of freebies!!! Who doesn't like freebies?! I know, I do! I remember buying a DSLR camera and part of the freebies are 2 point and shoot cameras... How crazy is that!?!

Anyways, here are some of the photos I snapped during this year's IT Show 2013 in Singapore! But before that let me just stay that this time, I thought IT show was quite a mess unlike when it was held at Suntec Convention Centre. I just felt like the flow of people was not managed properly. Also, how come I didn't see a lot of stores selling camera? Hmmm...

The crowd

Sale sale sale!

The new blackberry was there too!

Samsung board

This was really cool!

HD voice when you talk on the phone... anyone? I wonder how that sounds like.

I wish I can put more pictures in this entry, but I know sometimes it's not good so I'll settle for this in the meantime.

Dinner at The House of Robert Timms

Ok, so this dine in at The House of Robert Timms was very random. I guess dining out for me is really random - when I feel hungry and whatever restaurant I set my eyes into - that's it, we eat there!

This restaurant is located along Orchard Road. I really didn't know anything about it - which is kind of a good thing - from the outside, it's look as if they only serve coffee. When we checked out the menu, I saw steak, mains, salad etc. so we went in. It's good that there was not a lot of people so you can talk non-stop. The ambience was nice and the mood was just right.

Then we learned that they serve Australian dishes. Kangaroo and crocodile meat are on the dishes. Wow! So of course, I am so coward and me not being so adventures with food (for now), I ordered for this : Beer battered fish and criss cut fries for SGD 19.50

I was shocked when it came because they're serving is really HUGE! I was like - uh-oh, my diet! Haha.

So me and my friend tried to eat it while we were waiting for his dish. A couple of minutes later, this came : Braised Crocodile Casserole for SGD 24.50

Of course we had to ask beforehand if it was a real crocodile meat - well, the answer is yes. The server told us that there is a crocodile farm in Singapore, so it did not really come from Australia. Like as if that will convince me to eat. But I have to admit - I want to try it - but whenever I picture a crocodile in my mind, I will be like - No no no.

Well, my friend did try it and said it's really really good. Maybe next time for me :)

I have to say, I was intrigued by their menu and wanted to taste the Kangaroo meat as well... So let's see!

Final word : this is a very nice restaurant especially for those who are quite adventurous. Their servings are BIG ( just like in Australia - according to the server ) and it's quite cheap!

Dinner at Kazokutei Restaurant

It was not the first time we ate at Kazokutei Restaurant. It's our 2nd time and on the same branch - at Junction 8 in Bishan. My friend really likes the restaurant. According to the restaurant, they served the best udon in town.

Here's what we ordered tonight.

My friend ordered for sushi udon and tempura that costs SGD 15.90

And I opted for Tempura Toji rice that costs SGD 14.90

And this is the interior of Kazokutei in Junction 8 mall in Bishan :

I like Japanese food, but I can say that if I am craving for it, I don't think this restaurant will pop up into my mind right away, but it's a good thing that it's very near where we live, so for now, i can opt for it. :)

Dinner at Bangkok Jam Restaurant Singapore - 24 February 2013

We had our early dinner at Bangkok Jam in Wheelock Place in Orchard Singapore around 5:30pm today before watching Lincoln. It was really random and didn't really had plans of eating there. We were looking around for a place to eat and we passed by it so we decided to try.

The place was quite nice. There was not a lot of people even though it's a sunday - or maybe it's too early for dinner (?) haha.

I like Thai food - love Tom Yam (not spicy) - but I didn't order it this time. I was looking for something I haven't tried before and should be a light meal. I ordered for glass noodle salad with seafood - SGD 10. I quite liked it. The only thing is, it was quite spicy - I don't eat spicy food. But I ordered it so I had too eat it haha. But it was still good!

My friend ordered for what they call : Bangkok Mix Grill for SGD 23. It was a platter of grilled chicken, beef, prawn, squid, and coleslaw. I loved the BBQ sauce that they served it with.

Overall, I liked my experience there. The food was great, the place was good and food was not very pricey.

And oh, before I forget my friend ordered this Thai milk tea for sgd 4.80 - which was quite good. I tasted it of course even if it's not mine haha. I just ordered plain water - got to watch my diet! haha

After we watched Lincoln, we were quite hungry so we stopped by Paris Baguette and I ordered this Pain Au Raisin for SGD 2.90. It was SO good! I love sweets so it was perfect for me.

That's it for now folks! Ciao!

Batam, Indonesia Trip - 9 February 2013

Let me start off a travel post - our trip to Batam, Indonesia.

Batam is just an hour and a half away from Singapore by ferry boat. I decided to go there because ever since I live in Singapore, I've never been to Batam. Can you imagine that? Also, it was CNY 2013 (Chinese New Year) so I wanted to go somewhere even if it's just a day trip! I am that desperate!

So, we went on 9 February 2013 and I actually booked it 2 days before that day! Haha. I think it was about 65SGD per person and that included our ferry boat ride, our lunch, and the tour as well. Not bad huh!

The ferry boat was OK. I am not sure if it's because it's been a while since I ride a boat but something on that boat made me really dizzy. I don't get dizzy when I ride boats before!

Our tour guide was waiting right outside after the immigration when we arrived. He instructed us to look for our bus outside. I like the feel of Batam - it's like as if I traveled for just 1 1/2 hr by boat to Manila.

After a VERY long wait - can you imagine, we were stuck in the bus, maybe waiting for other co-travelers, for an hour - that made a lot of people really mad! We first went to a store that's selling local products. Love the seafood crackers! AHHHH... If I was not on a diet I could have bought a lot of them!

Then off we went to the layered cake store. I really thought we were going to something like a 'cake factory' where they will show us how to do the cake - but it was just really a store. I like cakes - so I like that layered cake they gave us to taste.

Afterwards, we went to Golden Prawn 933 for our lunch. I like that restaurant. There was a feeling of fiesta there. Haha. I like that there was a performer dancing a traditional Indonesian dance. I like the big space and the big tables. The one thing I didn't like was, the food is sharing. We were 10 on 1 table and we had to share the food.

I'm sorry I didnt have any picture inside the resto because I was so busy filming it instead.

Then, we drove to Golden Factory Outlet. They sell Polo Ralph Lauren shirts - which they say are original. But I saw some fake Prada, Givenchy bags etc as well.

On the same location, they have the go kart! Weee - i was so excited to try it, but it was so hot and humid that day and the queue was long so I was not able to do it. Aaarrgghhh!

Next, we went to a spa for the massage! My 2 companions were actually just really looking forward to this. They have been to Batam before and they really liked the massage. I am not really into massage but I must say they were really good - well at least the person who did my massage. For some people, the massage really was the highlight of this day tour!

Well, we supposed to go to some other places like temples etc but because of the time wasted when we waited for other travelers to arrive at the beginning of the tour, we didn't have time to visit them anymore. But it's alright - it was so hot that time anyways.

And that was it. I am not sure if I will go back to Batam soon but if I will, maybe because I just need a good massage!
